On December 17, 2019, USAID Advancing Nutrition launched a new country office in Mozambique. The project (known locally as USAID Promovendo a Nutrição) will work in concert with Transform Nutrition, a five-year nutrition project funded by the USAID Mission in Mozambique, to address the strikingly high levels of malnutrition in Nampula Province (55%). Governor of Nampula Victor Borges chaired the event, which included remarks from representatives from the USAID Mission in Mozambique and the Ministry of Health. The event was well-attended by national, provincial, and district government officials, including representatives from the Technical Secretariat for Food Security and Nutrition under the Ministry of Agriculture, other UN agencies, donors, and civil society.

USAID Advancing Nutrition and Transform Nutrition will work to improve the nutrition of pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls, and children under 2 years of age in Nampula Province. Over the next three years (2019-2022), USAID Advancing Nutrition will strengthen national and local governments’ capacity to plan, manage, and sustain nutrition programs by bolstering systems for multi-sectoral nutrition coordination.
