On November 1, 2018, USAID Advancing Nutrition Senior Technical Advisor Sascha Lamstein presented in Accra, Ghana at the Improving Nutrition Services in the Care of the Ill and Vulnerable Newborn and Child workshop.

Her presentation, “Identification of Common Actions at the District Level,” focused on concrete actions district governments can take to make sure frontline health workers provide the best possible nutrition interventions for vulnerable populations. Lamstein pointed out that to provide equitable, high-quality services, health workers need clear expectations, timely feedback, competence, incentives and motivation, and an adequate environment.

Hosted by the U. S. Agency for International Development, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund, the World Health Organization, and USAID’s flagship Maternal and Child Survival Program, the workshop focused on identifying key barriers and opportunities for strengthening nutrition services delivered to children under 5 years of age through routine management of illnesses at the household, community, and primary facility levels.
