On December 12, 2018, USAID Advancing Nutrition Senior Advisor for Nutrition and SBCC Peggy Koniz-Booher presented in Vienna, Austria, at the International Symposium on Understanding the Double Burden of Malnutrition for Effective Interventions. Her presentation, “Improving the Quality of Nutrition Counseling in Primary Health Care Settings,” highlighted the critical cross-cutting elements of successful nutrition counseling and why further investments in tools, training, and supportive supervision are needed.

Koniz-Booher also presented on the work of the Strengthening Partnerships, Results, and Innovations in Nutrition Globally (SPRING) project to examine national guidance on addressing the dual burden and participated in a meeting on private-public engagement hosted by Sight and Life.

Organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency in cooperation with the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund, the symposium sought to increase cooperation around and understanding of ways to reduce the dual burden of malnutrition by sharing experiences, tools, and research. It was attended by more than 450 professionals from academia, civil society, and international organizations.
