USAID Advancing Nutrition received New Partnerships Initiative (NPI) funding to provide grants and support to organizations working to improve maternal and child nutrition. Since May, we have been working with two grant recipients in Burkina Faso and two in Kenya to—

  • improve health and nutrition among women and children, with a focus on the 1,000-day window from pregnancy to a child’s second birthday
  • strengthen the technical and organizational capacity of local entities and/or locally established partners to become more effective partners to USAID.

The project selected the four recipients from a pool of more than 50 applications following a competitive award process. In Kenya, USAID Advancing Nutrition is supporting the Centre for Behaviour Change and Communication and the OGRA Foundation to strengthen their implementation of nutrition-focused social and behavior change interventions and community- and health facility-based nutrition interventions. In Burkina Faso, we are partnering with SOS Sahel International Burkina Faso and PanAfricare Burkina Faso to reduce acute and chronic malnutrition, improve access to care for women and children, and address malnutrition through community-based strategies.
