USAID Advancing Nutrition Careers

USAID Advancing Nutrition project is the Agency’s flagship nutrition project, led by JSI Research Training Institute, Inc. (JSI), and a diverse group of experienced partners. Launched in September 2018, USAID Advancing Nutrition implements and provides technical support to nutrition interventions across sectors and disciplines for USAID and its partners. The project’s multi-sectoral approach draws together global nutrition experience to design, implement and evaluate programs that address the root causes of malnutrition. Committed to using a systems approach, USAID Advancing Nutrition strives to sustain positive outcomes by building local capacity, supporting behavior change and strengthening the enabling environment to save lives, improve health, build resilience, increase economic productivity and advance development.

The project coordinator will work to keep the Nutrition and Health Systems (NHS) and Early Childhood Development (ECD) teams organized and on deadline through day-to-day administrative support. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, have experience providing administrative support, be able to learn new systems and processes quickly, and be able to balance multiple tasks/activities and ad hoc requests at once. They will coordinate internal and external meetings, including meetings with USAID. The project coordinator can expect to support operational tasks and deliverables including hiring consultants and firms, reviewing budgets, developing detailed implementation plans, tracking deadlines, and coordinating meetings. They may be also asked to contribute to technical activities, including literature reviews, support to research activities, and webinar planning. The project coordinator is based in Arlington, VA and will report to the Technical Advisor, Nutrition and Health Systems. The salary range for this position is $52,500 - $59,050.

Responsibilities 

The project coordinator will:

  • Work closely with the Technical Director of the NHS and ECD teams to provide administrative and management support to keep the team portfolio on track.
  • Coordinate internal and external meetings, including calendar invitations, room reservations, audio/video support, agendas, and notes.
  • Support technical team activities, including coordinating document review and dissemination.
  • Assist the technical team with the monitoring of deadlines and budgets.
  • Conduct literature searches and organize content in support of resource and literature reviews.
  • Maintain team filing system by saving and updating necessary documents and folders, including: work plans, detailed implementation plans, supporting documents for deliverables, activity folders, and team trackers on the project’s shared Google Drive folder and project Intranet.
  • Provide support to staff and consultants on travel assignments by supporting the travel approval process, travel logistics, and ensuring trip report submission.
  • Propose, create, and maintain team tracking documents, including monthly support to update the deliverables tracker and other tools.
  • Work closely with the Finance & Operations team and the technical team to facilitate the procurement of goods and services, hiring and backstopping of consultants (including paperwork, contracting, payment and travel support) and firms, and coordinate payments to outside vendors.
  • Support planning for dissemination of NHS and ECD work on the project.
  • Perform other related duties as requested/assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Post-graduate work experience preferred, but work experience through school and/or summers accepted.
  • Experience providing administrative support in an office environment preferred.
  • Experience working in international health or development (in the US or abroad) preferred.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in planning/coordinating events, travel logistics, and basic financial management.
  • Proactive and comfortable independently gathering information to complete tasks.

    Confident taking initiative within defined scope and driving work independently.
  • Languages: English fluency required. French, Portuguese, or Russian preferred.
  • Salary commensurate with experience.
