Women play a critical role in achieving positive nutrition outcomes. This International Women’s Day, USAID Advancing Nutrition recognizes the need to #BreakTheBias and work together to understand how gender impacts agricultural outputs, healthy diets, and social norms. To support gender equity and progress towards gender equality, we have developed tools to integrate gender into nutrition programs, highlighting the linkages between women’s nutrition and healthy diets for all.

Learn more about what we’re doing to advance women’s diets and nutrition:

  • Boosting a woman’s nutrition can have a ripple effect on the rest of her community. Read our LinkedIn article to learn more about how an increased focus on women's healthy diets within nutrition programs and policies can improve health outcomes for all.
  • To integrate gender into our work, USAID Advancing Nutrition developed a gender equality strategy that aims to empower women and thoughtfully engage fathers and other family members to improve women and children’s health and nutrition. See the progress we made in the project’s second year in our gender integration brief. If you’re looking to conduct a gender training on a nutrition program or activity, check out our interactive training package.
  • Quality social and behavior change (SBC) is central to improving women’s diets. We identified gaps in SBC resources for women’s healthy diets and provided recommendations for improving programming.
  • Our new guide for practitioners provides step-by-step recommendations to add and strengthen maternal nutrition components in programs or services delivered by the health system.
  • Addressing the nutritional needs of adolescent girls is crucial to breaking the cycle of malnutrition. Our Adolescent Nutrition Resource Bank is designed to support efforts to improve and expand adolescent nutrition programs and services.
  • Food safety is everyone’s business and requires collective action at various levels. Read our Agrilinks blog to learn more about the important role food safety plays in ensuring healthy diets for women.
