With financial support from USAID through USAID Advancing Nutrition, a group of researchers including the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, and the Global Micronutrient Deficiencies Research Group set out to transparently estimate the global and regional prevalence of deficiencies in one or more micronutrients among preschool-age children and non-pregnant women of reproductive age. The research indicates at least 1.6 billion preschool children and non-pregnant women have one or more deficiencies; however, due to lack of data, the total is likely much higher.
