Resilience

During Phase 1 of the program, USAID Nawiri conducted a household economy analysis (HEA) baseline study. HEA is a livelihoods-based framework that enables analysis of the ways different households access the things they need to survive and prosper. The baseline study gathered information on the socioeconomic characteristics of the populations; economic opportunities that can foster medium- to long-term economic resilience for the most vulnerable populations; and strategies to strengthen local markets to increase availability of nutritious foods and income for poor households. The study yielded profiles of different livelihoods, livelihood strategies, and wealth groups to understand vulnerabilities and identify key parameters for program monitoring. USAID Nawiri held consultative workshops with county governments’ technical leadership and other stakeholders to interpret and contextualize the findings and identify implications for programming and partnership going forward.
