In western Honduras, USAID Advancing Nutrition is reducing malnutrition by strengthening community-based growth monitoring and promotion (GMP) services. In collaboration with health service providers, the project introduced a digital system called the Digital Registry of Nutrition Activities (REDI-AN in Spanish) to help providers capture, process, analyze, and report information related to GMP services. The system uses smartphones and open access software to minimize cost. Providers can use it with or without a network. Introducing this digital system is part of the project’s overall strategy to strengthen evidence-based decision making, foster multi-sector collaboration, and promote a shared vision for improving nutrition.

Now the promoters from the community can send the information, so we realize how we are with the impact indicators in real time. By using REDI-AN, USAID Advancing Nutrition partners are able to quickly move from paper to digital reports. The only cost of transitioning is the time it takes for service providers to master the use of the digital tool, which includes entering and reviewing data for anomalies, and generating graphs and reports. USAID Advancing Nutrition provided one-on-one support and training to ensure that health service providers developed the competencies needed to use REDI-AN.
By the end of June 2023, health service providers had used REDI-AN to upload more than 2,400 community reports for GMP services provided to over 8,400 children under the age of five. A total of 54 out of 56 health facilities in the 11 municipalities where the project operates are now using REDI-AN.

Un Sistema Digital Permite Decisiones Oportunas para Mitigar la Desnutrición en el Occidente de Honduras
En el occidente de Honduras, USAID Avanzando la Nutrición está ayudando a reducir la desnutrición mediante el fortalecimiento de la Atención Integral a la Niñez en la Comunidad (AIN-C). En colaboración con los prestadores de servicios de salud (PSS), el proyecto introdujo el sistema Registro Digital de Actividades de Nutrición (REDI-AN) para facilitar el trabajo de capturar, procesar, analizar y reportar información sobre servicios de AIN-C. El sistema utiliza teléfonos celulares inteligentes y aplicaciones gratuitas de libre acceso. Los PSS pueden utilizarlo con o sin red. La introducción de este sistema es parte de la estrategia del proyecto para fortalecer la toma de decisiones basada en evidencia, fomentar la colaboración multisectorial, y promover una visión compartida para mejorar la nutrición.

Mediante el uso de REDI-AN. PSS transicionan rápidamente de reportes físicos a digitales. El único costo de esta transición es el tiempo que tardan en dominar el uso de la herramienta digital para la captura y revisión de datos, y generación de gráficos e informes. USAID Avanzando la Nutrición proporciona apoyo individualizado y formación para garantizar que el personal de los PSS tengan las competencias necesarias para utilizar REDI-AN.
Para finales de junio de 2023, los PSS habían utilizado el REDI-AN para subir más de 2,400 reportes de reuniones de servicios de AIN-C prestados a más de 8,400 niños menores de cinco años. Un total de 54 de 56 establecimientos de salud en municipios donde opera el proyecto están utilizando REDI-AN.
