Recognizing the importance of pre-service training to improve nutrition counseling over the long term, we developed a set of resources focused on integrating multi-sectoral nutrition into revisions of pre-service training for nurses and related cadres.

We led consultations across five countries where USAID Advancing Nutrition works to hear directly from government ministries, academic institutions, professional associations, funders, and technical experts to better understand the challenges and opportunities for strengthening the nutrition components of pre-service training. Those consultations culminated in a call to action for funders, policy makers, and implementers.

Additionally, USAID Advancing Nutrition created a tool for reviewing the nutrition-related content of pre-service training. We used the tool to review nutrition-related content of pre-service training curricula in Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Kyrgyz Republic, and Malawi. Findings from the assessment are summarized in a landscape assessment report.

Further reflections on our work in pre-service training can be found in this webinar.
